CFL Held Commencement Ceremony for 2023 English (Sino-US Cooperation) Undergraduates

The commencement ceremony of 2023 English (Sino-US Cooperation) from CFL, USST was held in CFL’s auditorium on the afternoon of May 31.The college’s  Party and administrative leaders, heads of departments, teacher representatives, parent representatives and all graduates majoring in English (Sino-US cooperation) of CFL attended the commencement ceremony was presided over by Deputy Party SecretaryJin Xiaodong. Mr. Li Zhen, one of the first graduates of the cooperation project and a 1996 outstanding alumnus and head of credit of Ant Financial Sesame Enterprise also attended the ceremony. In addition, representatives of the 2022 graduates who were unable to attend their commencement ceremony due to the epidemic were also invited to participate in the ceremony to celebrate this important moment.

The ceremony kicked off with the majestic national anthem. Next, Dean Liu Qin read a speech from USST Vice President Zhang Hua. In his message to the graduates, he reviewed the development process of the English (Sino-US cooperation) major, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the teachers of China and the United States who worked hard for the cooperation project, and expressed his sincere congratulations to all the graduates. He hoped that all graduates would keep in mind USST’s motto of 'religence, diligence, long-reaching ambition', and work hard for a new magnificent chapter in their future life journey.

Due to the inconvenience of visas and flights, American university leaders and persons in charge of the projectwere unable to attend the ceremony. Ms. Patricia Price, Acting Provost and Vice Dean of Queen's College of the City University of New York, and Professor Tao Wang, head of the Sino-US cooperation project, specially recorded videos to express their sincere wishes to the graduates.

At the ceremony, Jin Xiaodong, CFL Deputy Secretaryannounced the list of students who have won the title of 'USST Outstanding Graduates', Qu Deqiang, CFL Party Secretary announced the list of students who have won the title of 'Outstanding Graduates of Shanghai', and Professor Liu Qin, Dean of CFL, announced the list of students who have won the 'Outstanding Graduate Scholarship of Cooperatively-running Projects'. Li Zhen, the donor of Siyuan Alumni Scholarship, announced the list of students who won the Siyuan Alumni Scholarship and delivered a speech. He sent an affectionate message to the graduates, showed everyone the importance of English at work with his own experience, and encouraged students to make good use of their majors, seize opportunities, and work hard to create a better tomorrow.

Then, the exciting moment came. Full of expectations and blessings, all the graduates came to the stage to receive the certificates in turn. Associate Professor Jia Xiaoyun, a representative of CFL, sent a message to the graduates, expressing herblessing and expectation to the young students who are about to embark on a new journey. Graduates representative Gu Xueerspoke on behalf of all the graduates and expressed a strong affection for her alma mater and college.

The ceremony was successfully concluded after the group photo of teachers and students. The commencement ceremony is not only an affirmation of the hard work of all the graduates, but also a celebration of the long-standing achievements of the English (Sino-US Cooperation) project. Graduates will enter a new stage of life with the expectations and blessings of the university, continue to pursue excellence, and make greater contributions to social development.
