On November 22, 2024, Vice President Cai, accompanied by faculty members from the College of Foreign Languages (CFL), went to Beijing to visit alumni. They met Li Daoyu, a renowned diplomat, recipient of China’s “Outstanding Contributor to Diplomatic Work” national honor, former Chinese Ambassador to the United States, alumnus of USST’s Department of English (formerly part of Hujiang University), and Special Advisor to the Expert Advisory Committee of the Shanghai Institute of Public Diplomacy (SIPD).
Because of Alumnus Li’s hospitalization, the delegation met his wife, Ms. Wu Zhenrong, at their residence. Li expressed gratitude to his alma mater and accepted a renewed appointment certificate to the SIPD’s Expert Advisory Committee, along with latest publications by CFL faculty members. He extended wishes for USST’s future development.
In the afternoon, the group visited 761 Factory (Beijing) Technology Development Co., Ltd., where they held in-depth discussions with Da Mu (International Business Director and a graduate of English (Translation for Science and Technology) on expanding global partnerships. They also met with Wu Qijin (Risk Manager at the Risk Management Department of the Export-Import Bank of China) and Liu Shuo (Head of Meituan’s Drone Business Division and Secretary-General of Meituan Academy of Robotics Shenzhen, MARS).
During the meetings, alumni recalled their life at USST and briefed the guests their professional journeys. Vice President Cai and Liu Qin (Dean of CFL) provided updates on USST, the CFL, and the SIPD. They sought alumni’s feedback on curriculum optimization and discussed further collaboration in interdisciplinary language talents cultivation and internship opportunities.
The alumni reaffirmed their commitment to supporting their alma mater, pledging to strengthen university-industry collaboration, to establish talent development platforms, and to contribute to USST’s growth and national progress.
