From November 4 to 10, 2024, Associate Professor Mao Wei led a delegation to visit Iwate and Tokyo, Japan, under the sponsorship of the Sakura Science Exchange Program (SSP) which was fully funded by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). Members of the delegation were from the College of Foreign Languages (CFL) and the School of Materials and Chemistry (SMC).
During the visit, the group visited the Faculty of Science and Engineering of Iwate University (IU), the Iwate Industrial Research Institute (IIRI), the Cultural Heritage of Hiraizumi, National Museum of Nature and Science (Tokyo) and Miraikan (the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation).
Meanwhile, the visitors observed the operation of the cutting-edge precision engineering instruments, engaged in in-depth discussions with experts on discipline-specific topics, and participated in a joint academic presentation with counterparts from IU. They were received by Professor Hiroshi Osada, Dean of Faculty of Science and Engineering of IU, and Professor Hirahara Hidetoshi (Director of the Iwate University Center for Hiraizumi Studies) and Associate Professor Sang Jing.
Through this visit, the students from USST gained insights into Japan’s leading technologies, experienced Japanese social life and culture, which broadened their visions and boosted their future career perspective. Besides, the exchange also strengthened Sino-Japanese friendship.
Through the support for CFL, SMC, and the International Affairs Office (IAO), this SSP reflects USST’s commitment to leveraging its strengths in sci-tech foreign language education to advance international collaboration in STEM disciplines.
