To further promote the university-enterprise cooperation and help the students find internship and employment opportunities, Dean Liu Qin and Vice Dean Zhang Le of the College of Foreign Languages visited Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press (SFLEP) for an exchange seminar on June 5th. They were warmly received by SFLEP Party Secretary Sun Yu, Deputy Director Ye Qing, Deputy Director of the Marketing Xu Jun, and Liao Sha, an alumna of our college.
At the seminar, Sun Yu first expressed gratitude to the College of Foreign Languages, USST for its long-standing strong support. He hoped that on the foundation of existing collaboration, both sides would focus on cooperation in student cultivation, faculty development, and the application of new intelligent technologies. He also hoped that both sides should make concerted efforts to promote the reform of foreign language education in science and engineering oriented universities, so as to enhance the influence and social recognition of the English discipline.
Ye Qing expressed his hope to fully leverage the College's distinctive strengths in foreign language teaching in science and engineering disciplines. He proposed that both sides should seize the opportunity of jointly establishing the National Foreign Language Education and Training Base for Science and Engineering Oriented Universities to integrate foreign language education resources nationwide and launch all-round cooperation in areas such as faculty training, curriculum development, and academic research.
Liu Qin reviewed the long history of cooperation between the two institutions. She expressed her hope that the establishment of the training base would deepen cooperation in faculty development, update talent cultivation approaches, promote teaching reform, and explore new collaborative fields. She also conversed with Liao Sha of the Class of 2016, majoring in English (Sino-U.S Joint Program), to learn about her work at the Press and gather feedback on how well the College's academic program and curriculum settings align with her work requirements.
Both parties also engaged in in-depth discussions focusing on innovative development in foreign language education in the new era. The discussions covered a wide variety of topics such as the application of artificial intelligence technology, the development of digital textbooks, the construction of micro-programs, university-enterprise cooperation, and student internships and employment.
Prior to the seminar, Liu Qin and Sun Yu signed a cooperation agreement and unveiled the plaque for the “National Foreign Language Education and Training Base for Science and Engineering Oriented Universities”. This base will organize teaching training activities, explore innovative models for foreign language education in science and engineering disciplines, and provide exemplary models for national foreign language education reform.
