On May 11, the results of the 2025 National English Competition for College Students (NECCS) Shanghai Finals were announced. After intense competition in the university preliminary rounds and high-level contests in the municipal finals, six graduate students from our university were awarded the National First Prize, 29 students the National Second Prize, and 49 students the National Third Prize.

The NECCS, jointly organized by the National Advisory Committee on College Foreign Language Education and the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, stands as one of the most authoritative and widely participated English proficiency contests for college students in China. It serves as a significant benchmark for evaluating students’ comprehensive English abilities.

With the support from the Graduate School and the College of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the College of Foreign Languages has continuously advanced the reform of graduate general English teaching, leading to a notable improvement in teaching quality and a sustained increase in students’ motivation for English learning. In the early stages of the competition, a guidance team of senior faculty members was formed with the coordination of Vice Dean Han Geling. By adopting a three-pronged cultivation model of "competition mobilization–thematic lectures–personalized coaching," the initiative attracted 978 graduate students to participate in the preliminary round. During the finals, instructors from CFL provided intense and targeted pre-competition training, enabling the contestants to improve themselves within a limited time.

These achievements in a national-level English contest not only demonstrate the talent of our graduate students but also reflect the effectiveness of the ongoing general English teaching reform for graduate students at our university.
