On September 26, a delegation from the University of Strathclyde, UK, led by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Rivers, visited USST. The delegation was received by Vice President Zhang Hua, alongside relevant leaders from the Office of International Affairs and the College of Foreign Languages.
Vice President Zhangextended a warm welcome to the delegation and briefed the guests an overview of USST’s development history and disciplinary strengths. He noted that China and the UK have consistently maintained close cooperation in education, technology, and innovation, and that the two universities have already established fruitful collaborations in talent cultivation and academic exchange.
Vice President Zhang emphasized that USST highly valued its strategic partnership with the University of Strathclyde. He expressed his hope that this visit would serve as a catalyst to further deepen practical cooperation in such areas as dual-degree programs and scientific research and innovation. He hoped that this visit would elevate the collaboration between two institutions and the Sino-British higher education cooperation to new heights.
Professor Ian Rivers expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm reception. He introduced the distinctive educational features and internationalization strategy of the University of Strathclyde, highlighting its commitment to applied research and global engagement.
Professor Rivers emphasized his university's long-standing focus on collaboration with Chinese higher education institutions. He conveyed his hope that, alongside deepening cooperation in the humanities, both institutions could expand their partnership into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) related fields. This expansion aims to jointly explore innovative, interdisciplinary pathways and foster comprehensive academic exchange.

The University of Strathclyde is a renowned public research university in the UK. Founded in 1796 and located in Glasgow, Scotland's largest city, the university ranks among the top-tier research institutions in the UK. In September, 2025, it was awarded the titles of the UK University of the Year and Scottish University of the Year. As an internationally recognized polytechnic university, The University of Strathclyde has consistently received high acclaim for its research and academic excellence .
In 2018, USST and the University of Strathclyde signed a cooperation agreement, covering undergraduate study abroad programs and joint graduate student training initiatives.
