Students from CFL Made Outstanding Achievements in the Finals of the National Interpreting Contest
March 27-29, 2026, the finals of the 14th National Interpreting Contest were held at Beijing International Studies University (BISU). Students from CFL gave excellent performances and won numerous awards. He Wenbin, a 2022 undergraduate English major (Scientific and Technical Translation), won second and third prizes in the national finals of the English Consecutive Interpreting and Simultaneous Interpreting Tracks respectively.
Guided by the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration (CFLPA) and the Translators Association of China (TAC), this contest was jointly hosted by the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies (under CFLPA) and BISU. The competition covered eight languages, namely English, Russian, French, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, German and Korean, and featured student tracks including consecutive interpreting and simultaneous interpreting and an artificial intelligence track. Lasting more than three months, the contest attracted over 4,000 contestants from more than 390 universities across the country and participants from a number of artificial intelligence enterprises. The final stage brought together over 40 experts, scholars, and senior professional interpreters as judges, including professionals from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China Media Group, People’s Daily Online, as well as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Xiamen University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Shanghai International Studies University.
The undergraduates from CFL also delivered outstanding performances in the Shanghai Regional Semifinals. He Wenbin won the first prize, Wang Xiyue and Cai Yiyi won the second prize, Shan Yi, Chen Tianyi, Cheng Zijun and Xia Jiayu won the third prize, and Shi Lijia, Zhu Zhuqi, Zhao Yilin and Zhao Aijia received the award of excellence.
The outstanding performance of CFL students in this competition fully reflects the remarkable achievements and solid foundation of the CFL in the cultivation of translation talents. The CFL will encourage students to take the opportunity to participate in high-level professional competitions, improve their professional competence, and dedicate their efforts to enhancing the country’s international communication capacity.
