CFL Signed Letter of Intent for Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Honeywell (China) Co., Ltd. and Held Alumni Special Lecture
On May 19, the signing ceremony of the Letter of Intent for Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the College of Foreign Languages (CFL) and Honeywell (China) Co., Ltd. was held in CFL Room 306. Present at the ceremony were Yu Feng, President of Honeywell (China) and an alumnus majoring in Scientific German from the CFL Class of 1981; Liu Deqiang, Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee and Vice President of USST; Meng Baoquan, Party Secretary of CFL; Liu Qin, Dean of CFL, as well as other Party and government leaders, department directors and enterprise representatives.
Meeting in Session
Meng Baoquan delivered a welcome speech on behalf of CFL, in which he extended a warm welcome to alumnus Yu Feng and the enterprise representatives, and introduced the plans of CFL in terms of professional development, talent cultivation, and industry-education integration. Liu Qin and Yu Feng signed the Letter of Intent for Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking the beginning of all-round cooperation between the two sides in such areas as internship base co-development, talent cultivation, academic exchanges and studentemployment.
Signing Ceremony
At the meeting, alumnus Yu Feng reviewed his life on campus after being admitted to the Scientific German Program in 1981, and expressed his gratitude to his alma mater and teachers for their cultivation. He stated that as a USST student, he has always been attached to his alma mater and CFL, and will continue to promote the in-depth integration of Honeywell’s high-quality industrial resources with the talent cultivation at CFL and USST, so as to contribute to the development of his alma mater. Vice President Liu Deqiang expressed his sincere thanks to Yu Feng for his visit and support for his alma mater, praising him for his outstanding vision and extraordinary leadership, and calling him an excellent role model for USST students. Vice President Liu emphasized that the university-enterprise cooperation is an important practice for the university to promote the cultivation of “engineering-oriented, innovative and globally-minded” talents, and he hoped that the signing of the letter of intent would serve as an opportunity to fully leverage the advantages of alumni resources and translate the cooperation vision into tangible results. He also sincerely invited alumnus Yu Feng to visit the university frequently, to continue to pay attention to and support its development, and to jointly cultivate more cutting-edge interdisciplinary talents equipped for global competition and industrial transformation, so as to write a new chapter in the high-quality development of the university.
After the signing ceremony, Yu Feng delivered a special lecture titled “Rooted in the Local, with a Global Vision: From German Translator to President of Greater China of a Fortune Global 500 High-Tech Enterprise” to CFL faculty and students.Reflecting on his more than 40 years of professional experience from a grassroots translator to the president of the China region of a multinational enterprise, he encouraged students to become “T-shaped professionals” -upright, witty and mentally mature, and to take language as a bridge, broaden their international vision, and cultivate cross-cultural communication skills and business thinking. He urged the students to keep learning, take the initiative in practice, embrace challenges, contribute to society, and adopt learning as a lifelong habit. He also encouraged them to stay informedabout industry trends while deepening their professional expertise, so as to improve their ability to solve practical problems.
Lecture in Session
The lecture was held in a warm atmosphere and received positive responses from faculty and students. The students actively asked questions and engagedin in-depth interactions with alumnus Yu Feng on career development and industry prospects. After the lecture, Yu Feng and his entourage visited CFL facilities such as the simultaneous interpretation and translation laboratories.
This signing and lecture activity is an important initiative for CFL to deepen open education and promote the industry-education integration, as well as an innovative approach to fully leverage alumni resources and empower talent cultivation. CFL will further tap into the intellectual advantages and industrial resources of its alumni, transform the alumni network into a collaborative education platform, continuously promote the seamless integration of education reform, talent cultivation and industrial needs. It will cultivate high-quality interdisciplinary talents equipped for global competition, and pool alumni resources to inject new development momentum as the upcoming 120th anniversary of the university’s founding approaches.
