The special issue of National Social Science Fundis a column jointly created by the National Philosophy and Social Science Office, Guangming Daily and Social Sciences in China. It aims to play a leading role in the demonstration for the National Social Science Fund, publicize excellent research results, unite experts and scholars, and serves the overall situation of the Communist Party of China and our country. It’s mainly geared towards undertakers of various projects supported by the National Social Science Fund to solicit contributions, and has high requirements for published articles: in addition to having a "clear point of view, clear organization, simple style, concise language and strong readability", it also needs to "highlight the academic, humanistic, ideological and original nature, and reflect the national standard".
On December 22, 2020, Social Sciences in China, a special issue of the National Social Science Fund, published the article New Zealand Maori Literature: from Oral Tradition to English Literature by Professor Liu Luechang from the College of Foreign Languages in USST. This paper is a phased achievement of the general project titled Research on Maori English novels in New Zealand sponsored by Professor Liu. It mainly discusses the historical transformation of Maori literature and its cultural value and social significance from three dimensions: Maori and Maori culture are the products of colonization; urbanization paves the way for the emergence of Maori English literature; Maori writers implant non European experiences to express Maori imagination.
In recent years, in the process of striving to become a first-class university of science and engineering with remarkable characteristics, the College of Foreign Languages has been constantly exploring ideas, integrating resources and adjusting layouts. Relying on the Shanghai Institute of Public Diplomacy established with the Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association, the College of Foreign Languages has taken regional and country studies as a new subject growth point for the future. New Zealand Maori Literature: from Oral Tradition to English Literature published in the special issue of the National Social Science Fund and the research of New Zealand Maori English novel published by the National Social Science Fund are important achievements in the development of the humanities in our university. It has certain enlightenment significance for our university to further explore New Zealand research and even the whole regional country research in the future.
