In the face of the epidemic that has come back again all of a sudden, the College of Foreign Languages(CFL) has actively echoed the university's deployment, putting the life safety and health of teachers and students in the first place, and ensuring that the students that have left the university campus can still receive their due teaching and that the classes can still go on as planned in advance. A smooth transition between offline and online teaching, demonstrating that the quarantine cannot isolate our hearts and our love, has been realized. Starting from March 9th, the teachers of the whole college quickly have got ready to respond calmly, and made full use of the informatization advantages of the university and the college to ensure the orderly realization of various educational and teaching goals.
1. Multiple measures taken to ensure the order of daily teaching
Before class, teachers actively release their teaching news in a timely manner through the "Announcement Area" of OneWeb.com, and use Welink "Feiyu Approval", WeChat group, QQ group and other methods to establish class groups and publish their class guidelines to ensure that every student has a clear understanding of the requirements for their online courses.
In class, in the case of occasional freezes in the attendance system of OneWeb.com, teachers flexibly use WeChat groups, QQ groups, and Tencent Meeting to check attendance, encourage students to share speeches and notes, and ensure that students can participate in learning on time during their online classes.
After class, teachers release teaching videos and practice materials on the Internet, and urge students to complete their homework on time.
2. OneWeb.com, integrated learning, teaching and testing
Over recent years, CFL has vigorously promoted the in-depth integration of IT and education. Under the guidance of a number of first-class courses of Shanghai and key construction courses of Shanghai, a large number of multimodal resources such as teaching PPTs, teaching audios and videos, micro-course videos, and MOOC have been launched on major teaching platforms, providing online teaching with tangible resources. During the winter vacation, the Public English Teaching and Research Center and various majors have completed the data migration from "Chaoxing" to OneWeb.com, and continued to enrich and expand it. As of March 16th, the teachers of the whole college have uploaded nearly 7,000 reference materials and nearly 3,000 audio and video items on the OneWeb.com platform, fully prepared for online courses at any time.
Due to the particularity of language courses, teachers use OneWeb.com as the main teaching platform, supplemented by other teaching methods and information tools to achieve the teaching goals of each course.
(1) OneWeb.com recording + practice + teacher-student discussion
"Language + Major" courses have higher requirements on the clarity and logic of the content explanation, and some courses have a large amount of practice. These courses mainly carry out teaching activities on the OneWeb.com platform. Featuring "theory + practice", "Advanced Science and Technology English Interpreting" given by Jia Xiaoqing, "Cross-Cultural Communication" (English) conducted by Han Yang, "Cross-Cultural Communication" delivered by Huang Fengqiu, etc., mainly adopt the method of pre-recorded broadcasting (introducing theories and methods) + platform release of exercise materials + Q&A on the platform.
(2) OneWeb.com Teaching Materials + Tencent Meeting
"Interactive" courses have high requirements for teacher-student communication. Teachers use a combination of the OneWeb.com platform and Tencent Meeting to teach and explain disciplinary knowledge to students through shared screens, so that the teaching effect is as close to offline teaching as possible. In "Sino-Foreign Science and Technology Introduction" conducted by Zhang Junfeng and Zhi Yuying, "German Writing (2)" delivered by Yang Yitian, and "Interactive Comprehensive English" given by Wang Yanhua, in order to make sure that online teaching achieve the same teaching effect as the classroom teaching, teachers have turned into enthusiastic anchors, carefully designed their classroom tasks, actively interacted with their students in real time, and strictly monitored their students' reviews through online homework assignments, ensuring students' learning effects from all aspects.
(3) OneWeb.com + SPOC + Ubiquitous Learning Platform + Tencent Meeting
During the online teaching period, our teaching pays special attention to the cultivation of students' autonomous learning ability. The 25 teachers of the core College English course "Academic English Reading and Writing" not only conduct online teaching through such platforms as OneWeb.com, Tencent Meeting, and DingTalk, but also use the SPOC courses on the Zhihuishu.com and the Ubiquitous Learning platform to encourage Students to participate in such learning activities as topic discussions and online tests, changing passive teaching interaction into active interaction, improving students' autonomy and participation in teaching, and ensuring that online teaching will work for all 54 teaching classes is carried out smoothly as usual.
3. Need-based, Student-centered teaching
In order to link the last-one-mile of online teaching and satisfy the learning needs of students, teachers upload pre-recorded courses or videos of live courses on theOneWeb.com platform for students to watch repeatedly, check and fill gaps, deepen understanding, cultivating their self-learning ability. At the same time, teachers use the platform's functions such as discussion, homework, and testing, as well as the instant communication functions of WeChat and QQ, to grasp students' mastery levels of the knowledge points.
When teaching “American Literature,” Cheng Xuefang takes advantage of the special advantages of humanistic concerns in literature courses, combines course knowledge with current life, encourages students to maintain a positive attitude in the face of adversity, remain kind, determined and positive in the face of daily life full of changes, and cooperate with the university's epidemic prevention work while balancing their own study and life with a normal heart.
In order to meet the university's epidemic prevention and control needs such as nucleic acid testing and volunteer services, teachers adopt flexible attendance-checking methods to strengthen guidance and care for students, ensuring that every student receives course guidance in a timely manner, and creating an atmosphere of mutual help and love between teachers and students and among all students.
In the face of the epidemic, teachers of the whole college will explore in-depth teaching methods suitable for various courses based on their experience in 2020, make full use of various teaching platforms and online communication tools, and implement the attendance system through multiple channels and forms. Whether they conduct their courses via live broadcast or “pre-recording+ live broadcast”, every effort is made to restore the form and rhythm of offline classrooms, strengthen the interaction between teaching and learning, and maximize the positive effects of online teaching.
