In May 2022, Dr. Ni Xiaoshan, a young teacher and master’s supervisor of CFL’s German Department, won the 2022-2023 German Federal Chancellor Scholarship, becoming one of the 60 young 'Humboldt Scholars' around the world this year.
Humboldt-German Federal Chancellor Scholarship is established by the most prestigious Humboldt Foundation under the entrustmentof the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Each year, it provides a one-year opportunity to cooperation with German institutions to 60 future leadership talents from the United States, China, Brazil, India, Russia, South Africa and other countries to conduct social-related projects under their own independent leadership, with the aim of maintaininga long-term contact between Germany and these countries’ future outstanding elites. During their one-year study in Germany, the winners are also given a one-month seminar course in Bonn and Berlin, and the opportunity to visit the EU Headquarters, and attend the Humboldt Foundation annual conference. At the end of the project, the winners will meet with the German Federal Chancellor at the Federal Chancellery in Berlin. The application threshold of the German Federal Chancellor Scholarship is very high.In addition to having a relatively high academic level, applicants must also fully prove that they have the leadership development potential. Becoming a 'Humboldt Scholar' will not only enjoy extensive support and lifetime funding from the Humboldt Foundation, but also become a member of the Foundation’s global top talents network.
Dr. Ni Xiaoshan, after two rounds of strict assessment on written materialspreliminary selection and interview, stood out among the outstanding applicants from the wide fields of work, including politics, public administration, commerce, society and culture, and won the scholarship funding of the highest rank. She plans to start a one-year visit to the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany in October 2022, working with Uta Klammer, a social policy professor, on a research project entitled 'Family-friendly Society as a Solution to Low Fertility and Aging—Based on the German Experience'. Professor Uta Klammer is the chairman of the Gender Equality Expert Committee in the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Aging, Women and Youth. He is the director of the German Institute for Interdisciplinary Social Policy (DIFIS) and the director of the Institute for Work and Qualifications (IAQ) at the University of Duisburg-Essen. It is believed that under his guidance, Dr. Ni Xiaoshan ia able to carry out high-level research in related fields.
Dr. Ni Xiaoshan is the second Humboldt-Federal Chancellor Scholarship-winning teacher of CFL after Professor Chen Qi won the scholarship in 2013, which fully reflects the success of USST and CFL in the development and training of young teachers in recent years.
