Recently, the selection of the 7th National Basic Teaching Skill Competition for Colleges English Teachers, co-sponsored by the College Foreign Language Teaching Research Association and the National Foreign Language Teaching and Research Cooperation Group of Higher Normal University, came to a successful conclusion. Zhou Qingyan, a teacher of CFL’s Public English Teaching and Research Center, stood out from many competitive entries with her micro-course work 'Man and Nature', and finally won the 'National First Prize' in the 2022 Micro-course Group (the competition does not have a special prize item).
There are three competitions: teaching recording, micro-course and lecture. A total of 563 outstanding teachers from 177 universities in 24 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) participated in the competition and a total of 391 entries were received from colleges and universities across the country, of which 163 were selected micro-course works. After strict selection online by the expert jury, 20 first prizes of national micro-course works were selected. Ms. Zhou Qingyan's micro-course works won the unanimous recognition of the expert group of the competition with its unique and novel teaching design, colorful teaching content, in-depth and simple teaching methods and lively teaching style, and finally won the 'national first prize' of the micro-course group.
The prize demonstrates both the winner’s teaching ability and the overall appearance of CFL’s public English teaching and research. Over the years, schools and colleges have attached great importance to college English teaching. Through various ways, teachers have been encouraged to boldly reform and innovate online- and-offline mixed teaching, ubiquitous teaching and other teaching models, and encouraged teachers to grow through training and competitions, and built a good platform for the improvement of teaching capability. In the future, CFL will continue to encourage and support teachers to actively participate in teaching competitions at all levels to promote teaching and constantly open up a new situation in college English teaching in our university.
The National Basic Teaching Skill Competition for Colleges English Teachers has been successfully held seven times so far. It is one of the few special competitions for the teaching of English teachers in colleges and universities. The competition focuses on the basic teaching skills of English teachers, that is, language application ability, professional knowledge reserve, classroom control ability, adaptability, teaching interaction ability, and the ability to use modern teaching methods such as network multimedia. The competition is renowned for its high level and difficulty and has been included in the 'Analytical Report of the National Teaching Competition for General College English Teachers' released by the expert working group of 'Research on the Evaluation and Management System of College Competitions and Universities'.
