Recently, Sun Jiaming, majoring in English (Sino-US Cooperation) of CFL, won the second prize in the national finals of the 2022 'FLTRP·ETIC Cup' National English Speech Competition. His instructor was Ms. Lu Xintong who teaches the English major (Sino-US Cooperation).
The 'FLTRP·ETIC Cup' National English Speech Competition is by far the largest, highest level and most influential national college student English challenge competition. With its ambitious question setting, innovative competition system design and fair and rigorous evaluation standards, the competition is praised by the foreign language education industry as the peak competition for college students in China. As a freshman who has just entered the school, Sun Jiaming, with the encouragement and guidance of his class advisor, Ms. Lu Xintong, gradually established self-confidence to compete with national English speech masters through revising and practice in his spare time. He played well in the first online preliminary competition, won the honor of 'special prize' and successfully broke through from 4,196 contestants to enter the national final with only 90 contestants. In the final, Sun Jiaming calmly responded to the severe challenge of improvisation of the whole process, stabilizing the speed of speech, correcting the pronunciation, and describing arguments. He gave full play to his usual training level in various technical links of English speech, and won the unanimous recognition and approval of the judges. In the end, Sun Jiaming, who participated in the national discipline competition for the first time, won the second prize in the national finals amongst fierce competition.
In 2022, the speech team of CFL worked hard to overcome the impact of the epidemic and led and guided students to participate in various speech competitions. Previously, Jiangshang Gerile from the School of Optoelectronics of USST, guided by Ms. Guo Xia from Department of English (Sino-US cooperation), won the first prize in the Shanghai final. This time, Sun Jiaming won good results in the national finals, added another important honor to the college, and promoted teachers and students to create a good learning culture of 'learning through competition'. Under the guidance of the concepts of 'Great Ideological and Political Education' and 'full-process education', the college will do a good job in educating people in 2023 with the spirit of fighting day and night, and further explore a new model of teacher-student collaborative training high-level talents in the new year.
