A new semester heralds a prosperous future for all of us. On August 26th, the College of Foreign Languages (CFL) of USST warmly welcomed our promosing and energetic students of 2023. Filled with anticipation and dreams for the future, the students met at CFL to embark on their academic career.
On campus,seniors volunteered to ensure that the entire registration process was orderly, swift, and efficient. CFL administors made meticulously plans on the reporting and information confirmation procedures etc,. The volunteers enthusiastically offered assitance and information to the newly enrolled students and their parents, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere throughout the event. Class teachers, who arrived early at the scene, welcomed the freshmen, engaging in friendly conversations with the students and their parents.

To show the defining features of CFL and extend its warm welcome and blessings to the new members in this big family, CFL Student Union has prepared some creative self-made products. Among them, the most eye-catching is a unique hand-painted sign-in board, on which each new member can leave his/her self-portrait and name, capturing the emotions of the first day of their first day on campus.

At 3 p.m., the orientation ceremony for the Class of 2023 at USST took place in the auditorium on the first floor of the Library Information Center. With the solemn national anthem playing, the ceremony officially commenced. Jin Xiaodong, Deputy Secretary of CGL Party Committee presided over the ceremony. Present at the ceremony were leading members of administration and party of CFL, department heads, freshmen class teachers, counselors, and students of the Class of 2023.

Liu Qin, Dean of CFL, delivered a welcoming speech, presented an overview of CFL and introduced our characteristics and advantages in language education and international exchange. She encouraged the students to proficient in foreign languages and patriotic in character, strive to find their own tranquility, focus on academic pursuits, and be better selves.

Qu Lili, a faculty member, and Yijun Zhu, a senior, also shared their experiences and insights during their learning and teaching at CFL. they reminded the freshmen of the importance of facing challenges bravely, and maintaining a positive mindset while pursuing their dreams in USST.

Sun Ruofei, the representative of 2023 freshmen, gave a speech expressing her anticipation and expectations for university life. She believed that “if one is faithful, diligent, loving, and ambitious in learning, every step he takes is his witness to his fruitful fledgling years. Deep in our heart are our cherished ideals and beliefs, whose fulfillment requires nothing but diligence and perseverance. Only by sparing no efforts and working hard can dreams come true.” Sun expressed her commitment to learning and growth with a positive attitude, and she would like to create beautiful memories together with her fellow students.

“love is mutual, and the goals of the college are in line with the wishes of us parents. We hope that in this century-old campus, our children can improve themselve in all aspects, be a pride of their families.” The father of freshman Wei Boyang expressed his hope and gratitude to the college in his speech, encouraging the new student to cherish their college days, respect teachers and elders, unite their classmates, and strive for a promising future.

In the session of “Letter to Myself in 2027”, students wrote down their expectations for their life on campus on wish cards, which was put into a sealed box by the freshmen representative and Qu Deqiang, the Party Secretary of the College of Foreign Languages. The box will be opened during their commencement ceremony.
At the end of the ceremony, Party Secretary Qu Deqiang presented a gift bag to the freshmen representatives, which symbolizes the blessings and expectations to the new students. He hoped that they would keep their thirst for knowledge and pursuit of excellence, explored the unknown, embraced diversity, and achieved their own success through hard work.
