On June 3, 2023, the results of the National English Contest for College Students (NECCS) Shanghai Division Finals were announced. Our graduate students, after rounds of intense competition on campus, and then at municipal level, reaped numerous awards.
Sun Fengjing, a graduate student from our college, was awarded the National Grand Prize; graduate students Zhang Yue, Zhang Kang, Zhu Simin, Yu Yi, Chen Shiyu, and Chen Hui, received National First Prizes. In Addition, Li Juan and other 34graduate students were awarded National Second Prizes; Feng Xinyu and other 57 graduate students, National Third Prizes.
The National English Contest for College Students (NECCS) is a nationally recognized A-level competition in the field of foreign languages, focusing on comprehensive English language proficiency among college students. It has been held annually for 23 years since its establishment in 1999.
In recent years, with strong support from the Graduate School and the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the college of Foreign Languages has actively deepened the reform of college English teaching for graduate students and continually improved college English teaching, thus inspiring students' enthusiasm and initiative.
Under the leadership of Deputy Dean Han Geling, faculty members from college English department and M.A program supervisorsestablisheda ' National English Contest Coaching Team'.
Withmuch publicity, a total of 1,152 graduate students from our university participated in the competition.
In preparation for the finals, the coaching team provided support to the students in theform of 'specialized lectures and one-to-one personalized guidance,' to sharpen their skills in speaking, listening, reading, translation, writing, and IQ questions.
Moreover, with the students’ performance in preliminary and semi-final rounds in mind, individually-tailored guidance was offered to them to optimize their readiness.
The accomplishments made in the finalsare a good indicator to the effectiveness of the reform in graduate English teaching at our university.
