On October 12, 2023, Deputy Dean Zhang, together with Chen Zheng, Deputy Director of the Research Center for College English, and Ma Yuan, visited the School of Foreign Languages, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESCTC) for a on-site survey. The purpose of this visit was to learn the experience from the achievements in college English teaching reform at UESCTC, to strengthen academic exchange so as to promote the reform of college English teaching at our university as well as to explore new approaches in pedagogy
The Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages at UESCTC, Liu Shuzhen, the Director of the Foreign Language Department, and Li Jingnan, the Director of Graduate English Department, presented the guests a detailed introduction to the school's history, its academic features, and achievements in various aspects such as College English reform, first-class course construction, ideological education within courses, blended teaching, tiered examinations, formative assessment, faculty development, foreign language laboratories, textbook compilations, discipline competitions, andgraduate English teaching. This valuable information served as a beneficial reference for the construction of college English discipline at our university.
Deputy Dean Zhang Le also briefed the hosts on the profile of our college English reform and other related aspects.Subsequently, both parties engaged in lively discussions on specific issues.This exchange is expected to help our college English teaching team gain a deeper understanding of the characteristics and advantages of curriculum design at UESCTC facilitate the resolution of common issues in college English teaching at science and technology discipline-oriented universities, strengthen the teaching and research capabilities of relevant disciplines, and provide valuable insights to and support for the discipline construction, teaching reform, and innovation of college Englishpedagogy at our school. This, in turn, will further enhancethe development of college English teaching.
