Recently, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission announced the winners of the 4th Shanghai Higher Education Teaching Innovation Competition. Our university's general English course 'Academic English Listening and Speaking', taught by associate professor Zuo Xiuyuan, won the first prize in the new humanities category, which is the highest honor our university has received in this competition so far.
The course, Academic English Listening and Speaking is one of the most innovative and challenging advanced courses in our university's general English curriculum. It was selected as a first-class online and offline undergraduate course in 2021. The course team actively demonstrated innovative spirit, closely focused on the school's talent cultivation goals and the concept of new liberal arts construction, deeply explored the empowerment of mathematics and intelligence, as well as the effective integration of foreign language and science and engineering majors, thus, laying a solid foundation for the award. Our college attaches great importance to this competition and has invited former award winners to provide multiple coaching sessions. Starting from November 2023, professor devoted herself wholeheartedly to the preparation for the competition, polishing the course content, striving for excellence, and continuously optimizing the application materials, ultimately winning this honor.
In order to do a good job in this competition, our college invited off and on campus experts to provide in-depth guidance and training on teaching innovation reports, teaching designs, and on-site presentations. Multiple rounds of guidance training have improved the quality of the participating courses and provided strong support for professor Zuo's outstanding performance in the Shanghai competition.
This Competition aims to promote the deep integration and innovative development of information technology and education, and inspire teachers to devote themselves wholeheartedly to the cause of teaching and educating students. The competition is committed to creating a benchmark display and exchange platform for teaching innovation among university teachers, comprehensively promoting the ideological and political construction of university courses, as well as the in-depth development of new engineering, new agricultural science, new medical science, and new humanities.
