On May 6th, the leaders of our college were invited to the Shanghai Institute of Modern Languages to participate in the signing ceremony of the 'Letter of Intent for Comprehensive Strategic Partnership'. Party Secretary Qu Deqiang, Dean Liu Qin, Vice Dean Han Geling, and Deputy Party Secretary Jin Xiaodong; Director Wang Yong, Executive Deputy Director Dai Jian, Head of the General Office Fan Huayan, and Head of the Translation Department Gong Xue attended the ceremony.
Director Wang Yong extended a warm welcome to the leaders of the college for their visit and reviewed the recent good cooperation between the two sides in the first MTI Teaching Case Competition and student internship practice. He hoped to actively expand social functions, open up exchanges, and deepen understanding through cooperation to establish a mutually beneficial and win-win partnership.
Executive Deputy Director Dai Jian introduced SMIL’ main functions, institutional setup, translation work, talent reserve, language training, and work exchange and its publications. He pointed out that SMIL closely follows the development trend of language technology, continuously strengthens technical support, improves translation efficiency, and enhances social influence by building a language technology platform and introducing an intelligent translation system. He hoped that the 'Letter of Intent for Comprehensive Strategic Partnership' would lay a solid foundation for further cooperation between the two sides in the future.
Dean Liu presented to her counterparts the overview of the college from the aspects of college history, party construction achievements, faculty structure, scientific research, and student training. She also briefed the participants on the importance of the construction of the college's multilingual translation team and the achievements made in translation research, compilation work, and multilingual website construction.
Party Secretary Qu Deqiang affirmed the past cooperation between the two sides and hoped that they would carry out joint party building work in party discipline learning and education this year.
The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on various aspects such as educating for the nation, social services, talent cultivation, internships and practical experiences, translation technology, corpus construction, and large language models in the context of the artificial intelligence era.
Finally, both parties jointly signed the 'Letter of Intent for Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.' The two sides will take collaborative openness, integration of advantages, and joint innovation as the basic principles of cooperation, and will carry out in-depth and comprehensive cooperation in teaching, training, faculty, talent cultivation, and translation internship bases.
