On June 28th, Vice Dean Zhang Le, Teaching Office Director Li Minmin from our college, Vice Dean Gao Xiumin from the School of Optoelectronics, and relevant faculty members held a kick-off meeting for the Language Intelligence Micro-major. The meeting was chaired by Zhang Shiqian, the head of the Micro-major.
Zhang Shiqian first summarized preparations, enrollment, and teaching planning of the micro-major. With the support and guidance of the university, the Language Intelligence micro-major has established a solid academic and teaching foundation through the joint efforts of many staff and faculty members. The program features a strong faculty, reasonable course configuration, and cross disciplinary integration,, practical training, and empowerment plans, which have been welcomed and recognized by the majority of students. In the first enrollment, a total of 65 students were admitted, coming from more than 20 majors in 11 different colleges. It is planned to offer three courses in the autumn semester, including Language Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing Training, and Language Data Mining and Analysis, and three courses in the spring semester, including Language Large Model Training, Neural Cognition and Language Processing, and Python and Language Data Processing.
Deputy Dean Zhang Le and Deputy Dean Gao Xiumin gave guidance remarks on the teaching and development of micro-majors. Based on the guiding opinions of the university, the two deans put forward specific requirements for strengthening the cutting-edge, challenging, and innovative aspects of micro-major teaching, as well as enhancing school-enterprise cooperation, practical training, and cross-college academic cooperation and exchange. The staff and faculty members held a heated discussion and introduced the courses they were responsible for in turn, including the use of cutting-edge teaching methods to enable students to possess the core ability to propose artificial intelligence strategies and solutions in their future studies and work, and to solve specific problems, thus empowering students' professional development.
The Micro Major in Language Intelligence relies on the national first-class undergraduate major construction program and the first QS Stars five-star certified undergraduate 'English Major' discipline in China. It is jointly established by Foreign Language College and the School of Optoelectronic Information and Computer Engineering. It aims to cultivate interdisciplinary, composite, practice-oriented, and academically-minded advanced engineering and technical talents who are capable of language information intelligent processing and development, big data mining and analysis, cognitive neural experimental operation, and who can participate in language artificial intelligence development work. The atmosphere of the language intelligence micro-major teaching kick-off meeting was heated, establishing a good foundation for the micro-major teaching project.
